oh they look pretty cool. are you happy with them?

I finally got R32 Skyline wheels for the MR2 but I'm not going to mount them until I need new tires. And the cheap Nexen tires I bought are taking FOREVER to wear out.

I am very happy. The new rubber is so much fun, at the first autocross, I improved my time substantially!

Nice! What sort of rubber are you planning on putting on the R32 wheels? Make sure they are super sticky!

I'll be putting Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on. I'm still somewhat limited in what I can get in the right fitments.. it'd be easier if I got 17" wheels but then I'd have the extra weight which I don't really want.

I bought a full set of GTST wheels and a full set of GTR wheels so I could stagger them.. so I might get some semi-slicks for the spare set.

What rubber did you get?

Oh nice! Pilot Sport 3’s are good tires! I’m guessing the wheels are 16 inches? Cause there are very few sizes for the higher performing tires. Stuff like high mileage tires are plentiful though.

I got RE-11As, they should last a nice amount of time, and also be very sticky while doing it! Here is a picture of the car that my friend took!

oooh nice. As far as I can tell we don’t get the RE-11A’s here, just the RE-11’s and I’m not entirely sure if they’re street legal here.

Looks mad man, I like that there’s still plenty of meat in the sidewall. are they poking or is it just the sunlight hitting it in the right way?

I’ll be going from 195/60R14-205/60R14 to 205/50R16-225/60R16.. it’s one aspect ratio up but I can’t run a 45 because the load rating is too low. the fun thing is it’ll probably make my speedo more accurate as it sits about 5% too low as it is.

Winter here is wet and ~0-5C so I have to get all-season performance tires. The new RE003’s look better than the PS3’s and they’ve got the MCM stamp of approval, I previously had the RE002’s on the Bathurst MR2, so I think I’ve changed my mind back to Bridgestone.

Semi slicks I can get Advan AD08Rs in the right size and load ratings are fine to run a 45.. but with the amount of work needed on my car I’m at least 6 months away from any track work. So I’m trying not to think about it too much.

The tires are definitely meaty! The tread looks awesome too! Small things, but they make me smile. The front might poke a little, but when I look at it, it looks fine. No rubbing! So that’s good.

Haha, the speedo isn’t an issue with me! Tires are actually slightly smaller in diameter than stock! I have the stock wheels for winter duty though!

We are talking about the MR2 here right? What exactly are you working on?

yeah for the MR2, the turbo and gearbox need rebuild/replacement before it can hit the track.

I’m doing the timing belt and valve cover gaskets this weekend. Also for trackwork I’d want to upgrade the intercooler ‘cause they get a bit toasty. and maybe also the brakes to the later revision versions.

I also need to go and get my CAMS license and you can’t race in any discipline without one in Australia. CAMS are pretty much SCCA for Australia.

It’s less of a time issue and more of an expendable cash thing.. There’s bunch of mods I want to do too.. but don’t want to do it now for fear of putting myself in a much more competitive bracket.

I’m also saving up money to go to Japan later in the year, so that’s really hindering me just going out and spending thousands on the car.

Make some posts about it! I would love to keep up with the progress on the MR2. Also, would it be cheaper getting a different turbo off of a different car. Sometimes you can find bigger ones. Bigger = better! Also, don’t forget about an oil cooler, unless MR2s come stock with them. Oil temps can get pretty hot on the track. Once you start racing though, you will never stop. I don’t do anything flashy, just $25 autocrosses and it is the most fun I have all year, plus I’m hooked!

That is awesome!!! I have never been there, but I totally want to go, I am not sure what I will do there. . . probably go get prostitutes or something. What’s are you planning on doing and how long are you planning on staying? The Japanese know how to market themselves to the rest of the world, cause apparently everyone wants to go there.

I’ll see what sort of interesting posts I can come up with. I didn’t get any work done on the timing belt today because I broke the alternator adjuster while trying to get it off :P the bolt was old and tired and snapped with very little force.. and seeing as it was a public holiday today I couldn’t go and get a new bolt matched up.

I’m thinking I miiight just take it down to a shop during the week because I really need the timing belt changed before I go camping next weekend.. and don’t have the time to do it myself after work.

I’m getting the turbo high-flowed when it’s rebuilt, I’ve got a mate who said he’ll rebuild it and teach me how to high flow it myself for the cost of a case of beer. Just gotta pay for all the bits myself which’ll probably be a couple of hundred in gaskets etc anyway :/

I’m also on the fence about whether I should drop the engine and trans entirely and rebuild it in my garage. I’d need to buy a beater ute so I have something to drive in the mean time cause I work slooooow.

My girlfriend is going to study near Osaka for a semester starting in August, I’m saving up so I can go visit her while she’s there. No idea on how long I’ll stay yet, but probably a couple of weeks. I want to check out some local museums and see if I can get to Suzuka or Tsukuba to watch something. Haven’t really looked at the details yet as we’re still waiting on her to be officially accepted for the exchange.
